Two Year Clinical Internship Program

Our Clinical Internship program is for students that want to learn to run their own herbal practice or product business.

Gain hands on experience working with clients at our Berkeley Community Herbal Clinic.

Year One of this program completes the Western Clinical Herbal Certification process.

Further your herbal career with entrepreneur training with this internship.

 

Year 1: Clinic Internship & Year 2: Educational Internship

Year One: Clinical Internship

Students will begin to work in and learn how to run an herbal clinic in this 400-hour course in clinical herbal studies and treatment strategies.

Students will begin to see clients, make herbal assessments, prepare and formulate herbal products, and evaluate client progress. The student clinic is a busy facility, servicing up to 125 clients per month.

In addition to gaining clinical hours, students will learn the fundamentals of running a successful practice, including basic record-keeping, some business accounting, budgeting, scheduling, and advertising.

Students will also learn teaching techniques and will, themselves, teach a workshop or an herbal class.

This course completes the Western Clinical Herbal Certification process.

Dates and Times

November 7th 2022 – October 9th 2023

Mondays, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

This class also meets the first Saturday of every month from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

This class includes one week-end long field trip (date TBD).

Prerequisites

Completion of and certification through the Apprenticeship or Foundation & Therapeutic programs, and/or director’s consent, followed by unanimous approval of clinic staff upon completion of panel interview.

Full Program Cost: $8,400

Program Deposit: $2,000

Once you submit your deposit you will be interviewed by BHC staff regarding enrollment and acceptance into this program.

Remaining Tuition: $6,400

Remaining Tuition costs are due prior to program start date.

Year Two: Educational Internship​

Students practice herbalism independently with clients. 

Students receive supportive guidance with monthly faculty consultation, and extensive supervision/case consultation from senior faculty members is provided.

During Year 2, the Berkeley Herbal Center senior staff will focus on mentoring students to become the teachers that guide the next generation of highly skilled herbalists.

The Year 2 clinical students are exposed to a variety of teaching styles and given opportunities to teach their own classes, developing their individual pedagogy. Students taking this course will learn curriculum development, time management, and evaluation of classroom performance.

*This program is not available for payment plans or work trade. Unused deposits cannot be used for short-term courses, or workshops. There are no exceptions.

Additional Costs: Tuition includes all instructional time. Additional cost to students include travel, food, and facility rentals for 3 wildcrafting trips and the cost of textbooks. Depending on how thrifty you choose to be, students can expect the additional cost to be anywhere from $700 to $1000
