This comes at the perfect time because this week is Earth day of 2020!
The air is cleaner than it has been in decades, the rivers are flowing with clearer waters, and the dust that settles on our urban plant friends has a lot less crap in it – which means we truly have something to celebrate for our planet this year. That’s the good news.
The bad news is that a lot of us are suffering with loss right now. We’re in the midst of a worldwide pandemic and, for most of us, everything that we know has changed in some way.
There is a lot of grief that comes with change like this. It can be difficult to stay balanced and open – especially when so many people are hurting around us.
So we thought you might like a lovely, heart opening steam session would help you to connect with your heart and your lungs, along with giving you the space to release any grief you may be holding right now.
Heart Opening Steaming Practice Recipe
What You’ll Need:
2 Tbls Hawthorn Berry
Handful of Rose Petals
2 Sprigs of Rosemary (or 5 drops of essential oil)
2 Tbls Mint leaf (or 5 drops of essential oil)
One Fresh Orange Peel
A large Pot
A Bath Towel
Place your hawthorn berries, rosemary, and orange peel in a large pot.
Fill the pot with water and place it on the stove on medium-high.
Wait for the water to start simmering and steaming – add your mint leaves and rose petals (and essential oils here.)
Place the towel over your head and over the pot.
Breath the steam deeply for 5 breaths and focus your intention towards your heart.
Remove the towel and take a few breaths.
Place the towel over your head and breath deeply 10 breaths, focusing your intention towards your heart.
Remove the towel and breath the air around you.
Repeat this process for as long as you feel comfortable with.
After you’ve completed your steam, allow the water to continue to produce steam in the air of your space, put on soft music, and spend a few minutes mediating on your heart and keeping it open.
Don’t let the water come to a roiling boil with your towel on. It is very hot and can burn you easily if the pot is very full. It should, however, continue to simmer and produce some steam.
Take this slowly. Deep breaths of this steam can be challenging in the beginning, especially if you’re feeling heavy in your heart right now.
