Advanced Herbal Medicine Making Techniques with Terri Jensen
In this two day class we will cover several aspects of making effective Herbal Medicine. We will begin with the Percolation Method, making a potent and fast extraction in 24-48 hours. Each student will have the opportunity to make their own Percolation extract to take home, along with all the needed tools for future Percolations. We will then discuss Double Extraction techniques to enhance the potency of our extracts, and Solvent Exchange methods to improve compliance. We then will examine a variety of plant constituents, why we want to extract them, their solubility, their proper extraction methods, and easy ways to determine if we got what we wanted. We will also go over how to determine the alcohol (or main solvent) percentage and the correct ratio when making a formula from a variety of simples. This class is appropriate for the intermediate and advanced herbal student. Prior herbal medicine making knowledge is needed.
